Dr. Rajesh Upadhyay is the Senior Director & Head of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Max Super Specialty Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, New Delhi.
He has more than 48 years of experience in this field.
His expertise lies in treating many gastrointestinal disorders and performing endoscopy.
He completed his MBBS from University of Patna in 1976.
After this, Dr. Rajesh completed various fellowships including MRCP, FRCP, FICP and many more.
He has held prestigious roles, including Dean of the Indian College of Physicians (2021-22) and President of the Association of Physicians of India (API) (2015-16).

As a renowned gastroenterologist, Dr. Upadhyay is recognized for his expertise in treating digestive, pancreato-biliary, and liver diseases, having performed thousands of endoscopic and therapeutic ERCP procedures.
His research contributions include more than 100 academic papers and chapters, participation in developing national guidelines for ISG and API, and delivering over 300 lectures at regional, national, and international conferences.
Dr. Upadhyay has played a leadership role in enhancing India’s healthcare systems, improving medical education, and promoting gastroenterology as a specialty, serving as a postgraduate teacher and thesis guide for DNB students.
Dr. Rajesh Upadhyay published the world’s first paper on the interaction between H. Pylori and NSAIDs in 1986, which became one of the most cited papers in the field.
He has authored over 100 academic papers and chapters in national and international journals and books.
Additionally, Dr. Upadhyay has delivered more than 200 presentations at various state, regional, and national conferences across India, showcasing his vast expertise and contributions to medical knowledge.
